This idea that I’m doing something wrong, that inherently I’m unworthy, that I’ve been bad and deserve to be punished because I don’t make 500,000 a year.
This idea that some careers can still get you there (ie pilot, doctor, tech guy) if you just work hard enough, you can be a part of the elite class, you too can be worthy. Its a way for someone to say, ‘see, if you just made the right decisions, and became the right kind of useful, you’d make enough for this lifestyle too’. But not acknowledging that maybe the value brought by these specific skills is not as valuable as these people are compensated for.
