Flying to Korea for an annual training requirement, and I’m fully mired in the cognitive dissonance of it all. How do I align my actions with my values? I have to speak my values, and I have to give grace to myself for why I’m here.

Why don’t I shop at amazon anymore? The question I was asked when I casually mentioned I don’t use Amazon was ‘…wait why aren’t we using amazon?’ from one of the most vocal left wing environmentalists I’ve ever encountered. I still love the girl, but it made me realize that we all hold congititive dissonance. Because its all too big to really no have to compartmentalize some things. Why I don’t use Amazon

The DTFH with Abby Martin covered some stuff that resonated with me. She talked about how picking a side - MAGA, liberal, Bernie, DSA, any of them, is a kind of a compartmentalized trauma response. The problems are too big to tackle individually, and these identities package a way to say you’re contributing, while they do whatever it is that they are going to do, most of it bad.

Voting as a humiliation ritual. You show up to the poll booth after spending hours being giving hours of your life to a propaganda machine that has convinced you that they’ll save the world, but only with your help. Then, when they are voted into power, they continue the same atrocities the other side was doing.

Its hard to articulate, so that means I really shoudl try.
